Physics at √s = 900 GeV from the UA5 experiment at the Spanti-pS collider

  • 1. Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge (UK)

Description

In March 1985 the CERN Spanti-pS collider obtained collisions at the highest energy so far achieved in the laboratory, 900 GeV in the c.m., by operating in ''pulsed'' mode. The motivation for the pulsed collider and its performance will be outlined. First results from the UA5 experiment at 900 GeV will be presented, concerning cross-section measurements, charged particle production and a search for Centauro-like phenomena. 20 figs., 20 refs
