Resonance effects in free-free transitions for H-

  • 1. Queen's Univ., Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)

Description

It is shown that for the process e- + hv + H(1s) → e- + H contributions from final states 2s and 2p dominate the absorption coefficient over the wavelength range 1219-1350 A. The bremmstrahlung process e- + H(2s) → e- + hv + H(1s) is shown to be unimportant as a mechanism for de-exciting the metastable 2s state of hydrogen. (author)
