Main properties of the reaction p-barp→p-barpπ+π- at 22.4 GeV/c

Description

We show that the main processes which lead to the final state in the reaction p-barp→p-barpπ+π- at 22.4 GeVc are single vertex diffraction dissociation with the cross section σ/sub diff/(p) = σ/sub diff/(p-bar) = 0.42 +- 0.02 mb and pair production of isobars Δ++∼(Δ++) with the cross section σ(ΔDelta-bar) = 0.25 +- 0.03 mb. We have determined cross sections for production of Δ++∼(Δ++) isobars and rho0 and f mesons. In the effective-mass spectrum of the diffractive system Nππ we observed a structure which is associated with the production of N*(1500) and N*(1700) isobars. We studied angular characteristics of particles in the channel p-barp→Δ++∼(Δ++), which give evidence for a significant one-pion-exchange contribution
