Description

The purpose of this paper is to develop a method which applies a set of safety criteria reconciling two fundamentally different types of criterion, to compare with safety goals applied for nuclear power plants. This methodology is based on the Value Impact Analysis (VIA) by employing the plant attribute of an energy generation cost and a risk given by probabilistic safety analysis. This methodology was applied to a specific LMFBR design, and a large number of design alternatives were evaluated with the objectives of minimizing energy generation costs under the constraint of both an a priori risk criterion and a cost-benefit criterion
