Description
The orbits of a distribution of electrons, initially cold and uniformly distributed in space, driven by an exponentially growing electrostatic wave, have been followed numerically. It is found that the average field at trapping is characterized by ωB/ω ≈ π/4 (ωB2 = ekE/m) for growth rates λ/ω ≤ 14.
