Electrochemical transformations of oxygen on surface of vanadium oxides
- 1. Sverdlovskij Inst. Narodnogo Khozyajstva (USSR)
Description
Electrochemical transformations of oxygen, chemisorbed on the surface of vanadium oxides due to their anodic polarization and connection of observed phenomena with crystal and defective structure of these compounds are investigated. The electrode to be studied is prepared by mixing powders of oxides and coal powder. It is seen from anode and cathode polarization curves that ability to oxidation rises in the series V2O5, V3O7<V4O9<V6O13. During transition from V6O13 to V2O4 anode current weakens. V2O5, V4O9, V6O13 oxides show ability to reduction. V3O7 oxide is the most inert. The effect of anodic polarization is expressed in the appearance of a spectrum of signals on the following cathodic curve the value of which is much higher than the value of signals of intrinsic electrochemical transformations. The value of cathode signals, amount and discreteness depend on the nature of oxide, potential of anodic polarization and solution acidity. It is shown that oxide ability to sorb oxygen in the moment of separation is the function of concentrations of quasi-free electrons and (or) V4+ centers and depends on the structural sample disordering
