The number-intensity distribution for extragalactic X-ray sources
Description
Since the discovery of the isotropic X-ray background in 1962, the obvious question regarding its origin has been whether this due to entirely to the superposition of unresolved sources or if there is a truly diffuse component as well. The author reviews high-sensitivity surveys in limited regions of the sky conducted to answer this question. New data is also presented which permits a more refined analysis of the number-intensity distribution of extragalactic sources. (Auth.)
