Acceleration of nitrogen and oxygen ions in the KUMM 1.6MV-tandem accelerator

Description
The KUMM 1.6MV tandem electrostatic accelerator has been successfully tested to achieve acceleration of a few nA N4+ ions up to about 7.9MeV in case of NH- injection and several nA N4+ ions up to about 7MeV in case of NO- injection. Numerical calculation of charge-changing efficiency of N to Nsup(z+) gave reasonable values consistent with the experimental yields. Extended application of this accelerator for utilization of heavy ions is expected to be promising. (author)
