Structure in the backward proton deuteron scattering in the 40-1000 MeV region

Description
This paper discusses p-D backward scattering at 40-1000 MeV. The p-D backward differential cross sections show characteristic behaviour in energy dependence; a dip at 300 MeV and a bump at 500 MeV, and also a sharp drop with increasing incident proton energy above 1 GeV. In order to interpret these features, two kinds of model have been proposed. One relates the p-D scatterings to pp→πD reactions, and the other involves contributions from observed I=1/2 nucleon resonances in addition to the nucleon. The relativistic effects are considerable for p-D backward differential cross sections. Especially the effects from the D-state component is remarkable, and the P-state component plays an important role in reproducing the big-bump structure and the sharp drop in energy dependence.
