Periodic safety review and plant life management of nuclear power plants
Description
The electric utility, requested by the MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry), performs comprehensive safety reviews of a nuclear installation at fixed intervals (approximately every ten years), and implements relevant improvements in equipment and operation management incorporating pass operating experience and the latest technological knowledge, in order to obtain an outlook for continued safe operation of the nuclear installation. The validity of the measures utilized to deal with the aging phenomena associated with plant components at Mihama unit no.1, which has been in operation for 28 years, was evaluated. The results confirmed that the safe operation of the plant can be assured by regularly conducting the present maintenance activities even if long-term plant operation is assumed. 4 tabs., 6 figs
