Utilization of radiation measurements made during the commissioning and operation of the PFR

  • 1. UKAEA Dounreay Nuclear Power Development Establishment
  • 2. UKAEA Atomic Energy Establishment, Winfrith

Description

A programme of neutron measurements has been carried out in the PFR using special thimbles, the installed nucleonic instrumentation and activation measurements on items of equipment withdrawn from the reactor during the course of normal operation and maintenance. The measurements are being utilised in conjunction with shielding calculations to characterise the radiation environment in regions of the vessel external to the core, which is a continuing process in support of operations, maintenance and irradiation experiments. The role of these measurements in the development of improved design methods for CDFR is also discussed. (author)
