The Separation of Lanthanum from Calcium by Scavenger Precipitation Method

Description

In the process of separation of rare earth elements by solvent extraction with TB P from monazite plant, the rare earth elements especially lanthanum were contaminated with calcium in the process. This report was studied to get the easy and rapid method of separation lanthanum from calcium. The nitrate solution of rare earth elements with calcium was precipitated by scavenger precipitation. If the minimum amount of 10 mg of ferric chloride was reacted with 3 ml of sample solution and precipitated with 2 M NH4OH, then heated at 200 degree C, the results were found that lanthanum and calcium can adsorbed on ferric hydroxide about 100% and 10% respectively. Almost calcium is still remaining in the solution, that is lanthanum can be separated fairly from calcium
