Description

The use of unsealed radioisotopes in different departments of KAAU resulted in considerable amounts of solid and liquid radioactive waste. In order to avoid the accumulation of the radioactive waste in the working areas and to keep the exposure of workers to radiation as low as reasonably achievable, a temporary radioactive waste storage facility was built. The design and construction of a temporary radioactive waste storage facility for KAAU campus has been published elsewhere [1]. The storage facility built is above ground and has a 40 m2 floor space and 20 cm concrete walls. Both construction and operation of the storage facility comply with the radiation safety requirements for the workers handling the radioactive waste, for the public and for the bio environment[2]. Similar works were also reported elsewhere[3]
