Y-12 Biology Complex Demolition - Enabling U.S. Lithium Processing Mission - 22318

  • 1. UCOR, an Amentum led partnership with Jacobs (United States)

Description

The Y-12 Biology Complex consisted of two large World War II era buildings and four ancillary facilities with an aggregate gross square footage (GSF) of 337,858. UCOR, an Amentum-led partnership with Jacobs, accomplished the deactivation activities of these buildings in approximately 26 months and the demolition to top of slabs in approximately 6-1/2 months. Decontamination, dismantlement, deactivation and demolition (D4) were completed during the height of the coronavirus pandemic without a workplace transmission of the COVID-19 virus. The site of the now-former Y-12 Biology Complex is being prepared to enable construction of the DOE/NNSA Lithium Processing Facility, a 134-000 square foot facility which is being built to support weapons life extension programs.
