Description
This chapter deals with the authors' preliminary studies on a survey of radiosensitivity among the Japanese population involving use of cells derived from skin biopsies. The cells derived from Japanese AT homozygotes were significantly sensitive to X irradiation, whereas cells from AT heterozygotes were not radiosensitive. The D/sub O/ values of cells derived from apparently healthy individuals ranged from 148 to 166 R. They also analyzed the synthesis and repair of DNA in AT cells irradiated with X rays, by means of alkaline elution and host cell reactivation of γ-irradiated herpes simplex virus. Cells from AT patients showed a higher rate of DNA synthesis than control cells after 2 kR of X irradiation
