Description

Highlights: • Reactivity oscillations under a seismic event is studied for a medium sized LMFBR core. • Reactor power and temperature changes are analysed using a transient analysis code. • Point kinetics approximation is used for the reactor kinetics studies. • 1250 MWt fast reactor PFBR is considered for the analysis. • Fuel and clad hot spot temperatures are found to be well within the design limits. - Abstract: Kinetics studies of reactivity oscillations under seismic conditions have been performed for a medium sized MOX fuelled LMFBR core. It is established that for reactivity fluctuations caused by a Safe Shutdown Earthquake the fuel and clad hot spot temperatures remain below normal operation limits, though Safe Shutdown Earthquake is classified as a faulted event.
