Preliminary microstructural characterization by transmission electron microscopy of 14 MeV neutron irradiated type 316 stainless steel
Description
Substantial changes in the mechanical properties of 316 stainless steel were observed after neutron irradiation (phi/sub t/ = 2.3 x 1021 n/m2 and E = 14 MeV) at 250C. Comparison of microstructures of the unirradiated and neutron irradiated materials were evaluated using transmission electron microscopy. Evidence of small defect clusters in the irradiated material was found. These findings are consistent with other investigators also evaluating low dose irradiations
