Description

An analytical procedure of trace amount of Th in large volume water samples is described. The procedure consisted of concentration by precipitation of magnesium hydroxide, separation and purification with TRPO levelxtrel resin and spectrophotometric determination of Th. The distribution ratio of thorium between TRPO and HNO3 (or HCl) was determined. The effects of some interfering ions and the optimum quantity of Mg to carry Th from large volume water were investigated. When the quantity of Th in 10 L water is 0.5 μg, the recovery was (91 ± 10.8)%. The lowest detectable limit was 0.01 g/L
