Results of activities of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic and the safety of Slovak nuclear facilities in 2001

Based on a complex nuclear safety assessment of Slovak nuclear facilities, supported by international assessment, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (UJD) of the Slovak Republic concludes that the operation of nuclear facilities in the Slovak Republic was safe and reliable in 2001 and all international commitments arising from international conventions and agreements in the field of nuclear safety and nuclear materials, as well as from other bilateral agreements, were met. The year 2001 was also an important milestone in the co-operation of the UJD with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. The UJD prepared its 2001 Annual Report, analyzing the safety of Slovak nuclear installations; the Report was issued in the Slovak as well as English version. The UJD appreciates the assistance and support provided by inter- national organisations, governments of countries with an advanced nuclear sector, and by the Slovak Government and other Slovak authorities and organisations. Co-operation with the Slovak Republic's Permanent Missions to the United Nations and to other international organisations in Vienna is considered very helpful and effective. The UJD also acts as the national authority in the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO). (author)
