Description

People are exposed to natural radiation on a daily basis. The Chernobyl accident caused many severe radiation effects almost immediately. Human exposure to radiation also comes from human-made sources ranging from nuclear power generation to medical uses of radiation diagnosis or treatment. Aim of the study was to assess the medical and biological effects of persons exposed to ionizing radiation: participants to mitigate the consequences of Chernobyl disaster and their descendants, and the staff involved in radiation therapy and radiation diagnostic investigations.
