Quick preparation of thin films and ultrafine nanosize powders using pulsed power technology

Description
Development and associated applications of pulsed power technology will be reviewed in the field of materials science. In particular, the energy conversion into intense pulsed proton beam is very useful to prepare various kinds of thin films by the use of high-density ablation plasma produced by the proton-beam interaction with targets. By rapid cooling of the plasma, in addition, ultrafine nanosize powders have been successfully synthesized as well. Furthermore, the preparation of thin films and nanosize powders has also been achieved by pulsed wire discharge. Fullerenes and single-wall carbon nanotubes have been prepared as well by pulsed wire discharge of a bundle of carbon fibers.
