Description
Transition densities from self-consistent RPA calculations are folded with a complex nucleon-nucleus interaction to obtain form factors for DWBA analyses of (16O, 16O') reactions exciting the 208Pb(3-, 2.61 MeV) and 48Ca(2+, 3.83 MeV; 3-, 4.51 MeV) states. A generally consistent description is obtained with an interaction which is somewhat smaller than the nucleon-nucleus optical potential. The RPA results explain why previous collective model analyses of the 48Ca(2+) excitation are inconsistent. (orig.)
