New NDE centre to validate Sizewell B PWR inspection
Description
Stringent precautions are being taken at all stages of manufacture of the vessel for Britain's proposed Sizewell B PWR to ensure that it is free from defects which could jeopardise the integrity of the vessel. The Inspection Validation Centre (IVC) now being established at Risley, England, will provide independent assessment of the ultrasonic inspections to be carried out on the pressure vessel. Facilities will include deliberately flawed test assemblies for validation under realistic conditions. (author)
