Description
The bombardment of 58Ni nuclei with 70 MeV 16O ions resulted in the formation of highly excited 74Kr compound nuclei. The spectra of protons and alpha particles from the decay of the compound nuclei were recorded in the angular interval of 30deg to 155deg (lab. syst.). The angular proton distribution was measured in the energy region of 5 to 17 MeV in steps of 2 MeV, the alpha particle angular distribution was measured in the energy region of 9 to 25 MeV, also in steps of 2 MeV. Most of the distributions were found to be nearly symmetric around 90deg (CMS) as expected for the pure compound nucleus reaction. The total observed cross section for alpha particle evaporation was 500 mb, for protons 2313 mb. (Z.J.)
