Separation of americium from bulk lanthanides in actinide partitioning process using CMPO and DTPA

  • 1. Back-End Technology Development Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

The present study has confirmed that by operating CMPO-DTPA process at pH 1.9 to 2.0, cerium and other light lanthanides can be completely separated from heavy lanthanides and americium. Light rare earths which constitute about 70% non radioactive trivalent elements could be separated from americium in this process step
