Properties of a silica aerogel Cerenkov radiator used in a cosmic ray telescope

Description
The radiator with a refractive index of 1.06 allows a clear separation of the elements in the iron group even at high energies. No detectable scintillation component was found. Some optical properties of the silica aerogel are presented. (orig/WB)
