K-shell vacancy creation in asymmetric ion-atom collisions
Description
A quantitative study is carried out of the 2psigma-2pπ transitions which may be invoked to explain the creation of K-shell vacancies within the molecular approximation to atomic collisions. The molecular energy curves and transition matrix elements are calculated in a one-electron approximation. The theory is applied to a study of the creation of K-shell vacancies in beryllium, carbon and nitrogen and compared with the experimental results. (author)
