Nuclear fuel poolside inspection technology development

Description

Multi-purpose single rod inspection technology has been developed to collect fuel irradiation performance data including oxide layer thickness, fretting wear depth, rod diameter and general defect to use for fuel development and investigation of the root cause of fuel failure. Using the single rod inspection technology, irradiation performance of 8 rods from 2 fuel assemblies has been successfully examined at YGN No. 4 in October 2002. Now, fuel assembly inspection and function test technologies are on development for peripheral rod inspection, oxide layer thickness and geometrical integrity of grid, assembly bowing, twisting, growing and leaf spring force measurement
