Description

Several current topics on nuclear superdeformation are discussed. This field emerged only five years ago, and experimental and theoretical research has been made very actively. We will learn what have been already achieved and what researchers are interested in now. Then the dependence of energy levels and M1 transition matrix elements on the signature quantum number in odd-A nuclei is discussed. This quantum number is characteristic to deformed nuclei and we can study the rotational motion in detail through the dependence of various observables on it. Finally we will discuss strong magnetic dipole states in deformed nuclei, which are often referred to as scissors mode. The subject involves only low spin states and normal deformations, and therefore does not quite fit the title of this article. Since, it is very probable that the rotational motion itself generates the scissors mode which is a collective state, we dare to discuss it here. (author) 65 refs
