Determination of actinide nuclides in water samples from the primary circuit of a research reactor

  • 1. Zentralinstitut fuer Kernforschung, Rossendorf bei Dresden (German Democratic Republic)

Description

Primary coolant samples from a research reactor were analyzed for sup(239,240)Pu, sup(238)Pu, sup(238)U, sup(237)Np and sup(239)Np. The determination of sup(237)Np and sup(238)U was carried out with the help of isotope dilution neutron activation analysis with sup(239)Np or sup(238)Np as tracer. For determination of sup(239,240)Pu and sup(238)Pu, alpha spectroscopic isotope dilution analysis with sup(238)Pu as tracer was used. sup(239)Np was determined with the help of isotope dilution analysis using sup(238)Np as tracer. Nuclides were isolated by chemical separation on anionite resin. Before measurement Pu isotopes were electrolytically deposited on stainless steel plates. Activity ratios referring to sup(238)U are reported. They are helpful for identification of the sources of actinide activity in reactor effluents. (author)
