Tritium production rate measurement using glass scintillators

  • 1. Eidgenoessisches Inst. fuer Reaktorforschung, Wuerenlingen (Switzerland)

Description

Various fission reactor neutron spectra were used to test the suitability of cerium-activated lithium silicate glass scintillators for tritium production measurements in fusion reactor blanket experiments. After the irradiation, the scintillations produced by the decaying tritium and other sources were recorded. Although additional work is needed to develop background corrections, glass scintillators appear to be a method of tritium measurement that can be employed in conjuction with other neutron activation techniques, such as liquid scintillator methods.
