Description

The effect of titanium nitride (TiN), zirconium carbide (ZrC), aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and chromium oxide (Cr2O3) coatings upon the short-term and the long-term strength of tungsten and molybdenum fibres in the interval of temperatures from 900 to 1200 deg C was studied. It was shown that the coatings not only had no adverse effect upon the heat resistance of the fibres, but even improved latter's heat resistance and tended to serve as barriers preventing the growth of the diffusion zones
