Preliminary geochronology on orthogneiss from the Birusa zone (pre-Baikal block), Russian Republic
Description
U-Pb dating on single grain zircons indicates a Proterozoic age, 1703 ± 14 Ma(2σ for orthogneiss from Birusa (South Russia). This is considered as the emplacement age for the granite and contradicts the Archaean age inferred from local geological fieldwork. This date brings into question the actual extent of the Archaean terrane in the western part of the Siberian Shield. (authors)
