Modelling the propagation of an acoustic beam from a focussed transducer through a bimettalic weld

  • 2. Division Measure-EDF/DER-REME (France)

Description

In the inspection of pressurized water reactors, the safe ends are inspected with the help of immersed, focussed transducers, from the inside of the nozzle. The model of ultrasonic wave propagation presented here takes into account the anisotropy of the various materials making up the weld and the acoustic beam is represented as a set of rays emitted by the ultrasonic transducer. The authors examine the propagation of the acoustic beam from two different transducers in two representative weld geometries
