Description
Strength functions for damped collective motion sometimes exhibit fluctuation that is called fine structure. Using two examples, i.e., the damped collective rotation of deformed compound nuclei and the giant resonances, we discuss statistical measures that characterize the fine structures, and demonstrate how such measures tell us important information on the microscopic mechanism of the damping phenomena
