Validation of neutron activation analysis method in education and training center

Description

Validation of Neutron Activation Analysis has been carried out, including validation of equipment and method. Validation of equipment that affect the results of the analysis includes an analytical balance and gamma spectrometer. While validation of the method includes confirmation of identity, selectivity and specificity, detection limit, repeatability and reproducibility, accuracy and precision. Validation of balance give results of good accuracy and precision of 0.0005 mg difference and the maximum standard deviation of 0.46 %. Validation of gamma spectrometer give good result and is discussed in Validation of Gamma Spectrometer in Spectroscopy Laboratory (Sugino, etc). The confirmation of identity shows Al, V, Cr K, Na, Ca, Zn, Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu were analyzed base on Al-28, V-52, Cr-51, K-42, K-24, Ca-49, Zn-65, Mg-27, Mn-56, Fe-59, Co-60 and Cu-66. Detection limits of Al, V, Ca, Mg, Mn, As, K, Na, Mg, Ce, Co, Cr, Fe, La, Sc, Zn in sediment samples are 240 ppm, 27 ppm, 4750 ppm, 2600 ppm, 21 ppm, 3.3 ppm, 75 ppm, 1.4 ppm, 1.8 ppm, 0.5 ppm, 2.7 ppm, 29 ppm, 1 ppm, 0.05 ppm, 37 ppm. Detection limit of Cu is more than 98.6 ppm. Repeatability and reproducibility of sediment sample for Al, Cr, V, Mg, Zn, Co and As were good enough, but for Mn, Ca and Fe are relatively large differences. Result of Comparative Test for sediment samples indicate the accuracy and precision for Al, Co, Cr, Mn, V, As, Ca, Fe, Mg, Zn accepted. (author)
