Influence of LiOH and H2 on primary side IGSCC of alloy 600 steam generator tubes

Description

The influence of lithium hydroxide and hydrogen on intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) of Alloy 600 steam generator tubes in simulated PWR primary side environments has been examined. A harmful influence of an increase in the lithium concentration from 2.4 ppm to 3.5 ppm was observed. This increased lithium concentration caused a decrease in crack initiation time of 40%. To obtain large benefits from reduced hydrogen contents, it seems as if it is necessary to move hydrogen activities below 3-6 kPa. This corresponds to 5-10 ml H2/kg H2O at 3200C
