Reliability analysis of a LPG sphere due to cracking in its welded joints

Description

The rupture probability of LPG sphere is evaluated considering stress corrosion cracking in its welded joints. The model considers three factors: crack incidence distribution; reliability of the nondestructive testing (i.e., probability of detecting a crack by ultrasonic inspection); and probability that a crack reaches its critical depth between successive sphere inspections. The rupture probability is obtained as the product of these three factors. The model limitations are discussed. (author). 7 refs., 2 figs., 1 tab
