Spontaneous resistance variations of Au and Au-20%Pd coated source backings

  • 1. Muenster Univ. (Germany, F.R.). Inst. fuer Kernphysik

Description

Metal coated plastic foils are commonly used as supports for radioactive sources in 4π proportional counter measurements. Spontaneous variations of the thin film resistance can lead to an insufficient electric conductivity of the source backing, and cause counting losses. These variations have been investigated in the case of gold and gold-20% palladium layers. It is shown that Au-Pd as coating metal is advantageous to gold and silver. (Auth.)
