Description

PIXE has been used to measure trace metal contamination in ground water from chemical waste in EIoor, an industrial belt of Kerala. The samples collected from the area were prepared by a preconcentration method. The 1.7 MeV Tandetron accelerator at IGCAR was used for the production of X-rays, The X-rays were detected by Si(Li) detector placed at 135deg to the beam direction. NIST water standard was used for the calibration of the system. The computer code GUPIX was employed to obtain trace levels of the elements in the samples, The trace element analysis shows the presence of pollutants Na, P, S, Cl, Ca, Fe, Ni, Cu in almost all samples.
