Linear thermal expansion of Nb2O5-based compositions

Description
The already low linear thermal expansion of Nb2O5 can be further decreased between room temperature and 10000C by the addition of 20 mol% Ta2O5 or formation of the compound 12Nb2O5.ZrO2. The expansion of Ta2O5 can be lowered by the addition of 40 mol% of Nb2O5 in solid solution. Charge-coupled substitutions of (Ti,Mo)O5 or (Ti,W)O5 for Nb2O5 in compositions of the type 0.33Nb2O5-0.33Ta2O5-0.33(Ti4+,R6+)O5 or 0.4Nb2O5-0.2Ta2O5-0.4(Ti4+,R6+)O5 produce Nb2O5 solid solutions with extremely low (near zero in certain ranges) linear thermal expansions
