Description

The COVID 19 pandemic challenged the medical community with severe cases of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and hypoxemia that would refract conventional oxygen therapy modalities. In this context, ECMO (an acronym in English for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) emerged as an option, which previously had limited data in the literature, it was widely used in the context of ARDS due to COVID-19 with practical evidence of a change in prognosis and mortality when well indicated. In this case report we bring a 54-year-old male patient with ARDS due to Sarscov 2 infection and use of ECMO for 60 days and positive outcome of the case, with full rehabilitation of the patient.
