Description
The core design optimization of traveling wave reactor was studied in fuel assemblies, neutronics and thermal-hydraulics in this paper. The main performance parameters of traveling wave reactor core were analyzed. The results show that the optimized core scheme has obvious breeding and burning characteristics. The maximum linear power density is less than 500 W/cm. The peak burn-up level is less than 30%. The maximum temperature in the center of fuel pellet is much lower than the melting point of the fuel. On one hand, the design scheme fully takes into account the reality technology level. On the other hand, it has typical performances of traveling wave reactors. A preliminary direction of the typical traveling wave reactor design is indicated. (authors)
