Description

The matching of the ion source to a 150 keV accelerator is considered with reference to beams with finite emittance and space charge, subject to linear focusing realized by electric and magnetic fields. The relative importance of space charge and emittance in governing beam dynamics is also given. An approximate method of solution is described to obtain the function which defines the beam profile by means of the knowledge of the fields. An application of the procedure is made to calculate the profile of a particle beam transported along the axis of an axially symmetric periodic field. (author)
