Description
Magnetically-induced birefringence in samarium ferrite garnet is theoretically investigated. The calculation is conducted in the Judd-Ofelt approximation using the crystal field parameters. Itis shown that the mechanism of mixing in the field of samarium ion multiplets plays an important role in the formation of birefringence temperature dependence. The theoretic results are compared to experimental data. Their good agreement is ascertained
