Description

The igneous rocks that emerge in the Talamanca mountain range show a complex magmatic evolution, the stages of which are reflected in the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of the materials. Based on these criteria, field work, petrography and in accordance with radiometric dating available in the literature, new igneous stratigraphic units have been defined. In volume 2 the description, location and petrographic aspects of 162 collected samples are presented and divided into 7 sections; the first 6 correspond to the samples analyzed with the polarized light microscope. They appear in the following order: intrusive rocks, volcanic and subvolcanic rocks, pyroclastic rocks, hypo-abyssal and cumulated rocks, sedimentary rocks, hydrothermalism and metamorphism and samples with macroscopic description only

Abstract (Spanish)

Las rocas igneas que han aflorado afloran en la cordillera de Talamanca dan cuenta de una evolucion magmatica compleja, cuyas etapas se reflejan en las caracteristicas petrograficas y geoquimicas de los materiales. Con base en estos criterios, el trabajo de campo, la petrografia y en concordancia con las dataciones radiometricas disponibles en la literatura, se han definido nuevas unidades estratigraficas igneas. En el volumen 2 la descripcion, ubicacion y aspectos petrograficos de 162 muestras recolectadas son presentadas y divididas en 7 secciones; las 6 primeras corresponden a las muestras analizadas con el microscopio de luz polarizada. Aparecen en el siguiente orden: rocas intrusivas, rocas volcanicas y subvolcanicas, rocas piroclasticas, rocas hipoabisales y cumulados, rocas sedimentarias, hidrotermalismo y metamorfismo y muestras unicamente con descripcion macroscopica
