The usage of hydrogen in cleaning process of tritium containing water streams

  • 1. Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

This report deals with a new scheme of tritium recovery from closed tritium-containing water flows; it consists in a combination of the processes of catalytic isotope exchange of gaseous hydrogen and water with an electrochemical device for the transformation of the water stream into hydrogen and of the counter-current isotope exchange in the system 'hydrogen-palladium'. Experimental data and calculations show that a possibility to treat up to 133 t/y of heavy water and to produce 2.5 g/y of tritium with concentration not less than 99.0% is achievable. 3 tabs., 8 refs
