Container design for storage of spent 60Co radioactive sources

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Sciences VINCA, Belgrade (Yugoslavia)

Description

In this paper the construction of the lead container which is used for the storage of the spent 60Co radioactive sources is presented. Container comprises a special rotational platform which carries 12 compartments for the storage of the sources according to their characteristics. Usually the sources are placed in different compartments regarding their activity. The container is situated in the lead shielded box which is normally used for the routine production of radioactive sources. A already existing manipulating system is completely suited for the manipulations with the container. The presented construction of the box and the container enable the simple and safe manipulations and storage of the sources. (author)
