Actuation of the Hematology and Hemo-therapy clinic

Description

The author demonstrates concern with the assistance of this special kind of patient without promoting changes in the normal hospitable routine, he also describes the human and material resources adressed to these patients listing the purpose, functions and advantages. Because of a general fear of contamination reffered by all specialists, the steps to avoid this condition are mentioned. He puts emphasis on the multidisciplinary aspects of the care and the close collaboration among foreign and national professional people to deal with this complex population of patients, very heterogenous when it comes to exposure grades, received dosis of radiation and injuries developed. The principal injuries are listed and a description of the therapeutical strategy is given, followed by the procedures and means used in the development of it directed to protect life through an acceleration of the bone marrow recuperation. The reasons that dismissed the possibility of bone marrow transplant are explained and the clinical evolution of the patients is shown. The conclusion is that the drug GM-CSF has utility if used early in patients with a less severe level of medulla damage. (author)
