Implementation Aspects in Data Acquisition for Long-Duration-Discharge Fusion Experiments

Description
RFX is committed to the design and construction of the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility that will comprise two independent experiments: SPIDER, a full ITER-size ion source and MITICA, a full ITER-size Neutral Beam Injector. Both experiments will have a rich set of diagnostic devices to allow the comprehension of physics phenomena and the optimization of parameters. In long duration pulses the current technique can produce masses of data when sampling high harmonic content signals. The proposed solution: flexible ADC module with hardware support for real-time data filtering that will allow the acquisition of data only when needed and with variable sampling speed: baseline sampling frequency when the harmonic content is low and high frequency when the harmonic content is larger. This technology also allows event-driven data acquisition, it means data acquisition process that can modify its parameters depending on some events occurring somewhere.
